Things to plan before your Barbados trip

Sun, sea and sand, with a healthy serving of relaxation: a holiday in Barbados tops most lists for great holiday destinations. Before jetting off on a fantastic break in Barbados, there are certain things that you should make sure you get done so that you can enjoy your trip hassle-free.

Get ready for the climate. It may sound obvious, but many people arrive on their holidays woefully underprepared for the national weather. Bear in mind that Barbados can get very hot in the summer – if you want to protect yourself from the hazardous effects of the suns rays, stock up on plenty of sun cream, cool cover-ups and wide brimmed hats. Also be sure to check to see whether you’ll be arriving in hurricane season (June to October), and if so be extra prepared for heavy rainfall.

Travel insurance is vital when you’re going abroad, and though it can be tempting to avoid thinking about worst case scenarios when you’re looking forward to your holiday it can be very expensive (not to mention stressful) to travel without it. For travel insurance policies that are specially tailored to your holiday look for companies like AA Travel Insurance, who offer single trip insurance, or ask around your friends and family to see who provides their insurance.

There are many ways to get around Barbados, and if you want to take in a lot of the island you may find that you need more than just public transport. Do some research before hand to find out which option suits you best in terms of price and ease – car hire can be good to get to those out of the way sights, or you can explore options like local buses, private buses, and taxis. Or you may just want to try the public transport to see if you can experience a bit of the renowned local colour and welcoming attitude – people don’t think of Barbados as a friendly place for no reason!

It doesn’t hurt to be prepared before you travel, so think about what you can get sorted now to take any undue stress out of your holiday. Then you can just sit back, relax, and enjoy a fabulous break in Barbados!
